Topic Descrption: Fun and challenging careers in STEM and opportunities available to females
Amanda Whitaker was interested in Science and Technology at a young age. After much guidance from her parents, teachers and mentors, she choose a career in Engineering. She attended Texas A&M University for a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. She also attended Texas Tech University for a Masters in Systems and Management Engineering. She worked for the government designing tools for the disassembly of nuclear weapons. She also worked for a Japanese company that supplied air conditioning compressors to Honda. She then worked for Atmos Energy designing gas transmission systems and then transferred to a management role as an Operations Supervisor. She credits her amazing career path to a few mentors that enlightened her about opportunities in Engineering. Because of this, she always gives back to young students whenever possible so they too will know of the amazing opportunities in STEM.
